Babies, Children and Teens FAQ's

Do you treat babies?
Yes. I do treat babies with medical needs, but for most healthy babies I prefer to teach parents and caregivers how to massage them instead.
In my experience, babies respond best to the touch of someone they know, trust, and love. Baby massage is about so much more than muscles. It's a beautiful way to bond with your baby, learn their cues, and spend intentional time together. By teaching you the techniques, you can continue using them every day at home.
Do you treat children and teenagers?
Absolutely! I really enjoy working with children and teens. I find many young people feel comfortable in my home based clinic because it feels less clinical than other healthcare settings. Being a mom myself, I understand that every child is different, and I always work at their pace to help them feel safe and comfortable.
Does a parent need to stay during the appointment?
For the first appointment, I always recommend that a parent or guardian stay. After that, it really depends on the age of the child and what everyone is comfortable with. Many teens are happy to come on their own once they know me, while others prefer having a parent stay, and that's completely okay too. For younger children, I usually recommend that a parent or guardian remain during the appointment.
How long is a child's treatment?
It really depends on the child! For many kids, 30 or 45 minutes is all they're comfortable with, while others, even at a young age, are perfectly happy with a full 60 minute massage. Older kids and teens, especially those who play sports or are dealing with an injury, often benefit from a longer treatment.
If you're not sure what to book, don't worry. Make your best guess, and we can always adjust the length of future appointments once we see what works best for your child.
What conditions do you commonly treat?
Just like adults, children and teens come in for all kinds of reasons. Some of the most common include headaches, neck and back pain, sports injuries, muscle tension, posture related discomfort, growing aches and pains, and general maintenance. Every treatment is tailored to your child's age, activities, and individual needs.
Can massage help young athletes?
Absolutely! Young athletes today are training and competing more than ever before. Many are on the field, court, rink, pool, or in the gym several days a week, and their bodies are working hard.
If I had my way, every young athlete would have more time to rest and recover, but as a sports mom myself, I know that's not always realistic. That's why I believe recovery is just as important as training.
Massage therapy can help manage muscle tension, support recovery, improve mobility, and keep young athletes feeling and performing their best so they can keep doing what they love. Combined with good nutrition, quality sleep, stretching, strength training, and, when appropriate, physiotherapy or chiropractic care, massage can be an important part of keeping active kids healthy.
How often should my child come for treatment?
That depends on many factors, including your child's goals, their activities, whether we're treating an acute injury or focusing on maintenance, and how they're responding to treatment.
Some children only need one or two appointments to work through a specific issue, while others, especially active athletes, benefit from regular treatments to help keep their bodies feeling their best. We'll work together to come up with a treatment plan that makes sense for your child and your family.
